The West Liberty Cross Country teams traveled back to Slippery Rock, Pa. Saturday for the 10-team Slippery Rock Invitational.
The women ran the first race of the day, welcoming two new runners, Desiree Dennis and Brandy Barton. The two have been practicing with the teams for the past couple of weeks. Saturday was the day they were eligible to race.
Sherry Borsos ran well again, finishing the 6K course in seventh place with a time of 23:12. Tessa Gretchen was the next Hilltopper to finish as she crossed the line with a time of 29:01. Alyssa Meadows was the third Hilltopper with a 30:16 finish.
Rounding out the WLU runners were Shae Benson (31:06), Brandy Barton (33:14), LeAnn Haught (35:39), and Desiree Dennis (37:47). The Lady Hilltoppers finished tenth overall.
After the women’s race, the men were next. Ryan Shreve led the way for the Hilltoppers as he ran the 8k course with a time of 30:17. Stefan Riggs was next to cross the line with a 30:44. Travis Beihl and Cody Thomas were neck and neck. Beihl ran a 31:52, and Thomas ran a 31:53. Finishing next for the Hilltoppers was Kyle Lutz (32:31) and then Kaison Rohrbaugh (35:21). The men finished tenth in the invitational.
The Cross Country teams are off next Saturday before traveling to Gettysburg, Pa. the following week.
