The Student Government Association will host a town hall meeting open for all students, faculty and staff today.
The meeting is entitled “Wing your suggestions at us.” It will be held at noon in the Alumni Room of the Student Union.
During the Tuesday, Nov. 2 meeting, SGA President Richard Whitehead emphasized the importance of the event to members of SGA and told all members to come to the meeting with good suggestions.
Whitehead said the event will be a great way for students to express their concerns and thoughts to the student government leaders.
This meeting will be especially beneficial to commuters who may not be able to attend SGA’s regular meetings held at 9 p.m. on every Tuesday. Whitehead said he hopes to have representatives from the administration in attendance to hear students concerns as well.
“This will be a good visibility chance for us,” Whitehead said. They plan on announcing the results of a student survey that was recently conducted by SGA at the town hall meeting as well as other important information. Whitehead said if the new event goes well, SGA will hold another one next semester.
In other news:
The SGA Sodexo Committee reported the news from their last meeting. They said that Sodexo General Manager John McDermitt has agreed to conduct a “Tray Tuesday.”
Last year Sodexo established a “Trayless Tuesday” in which all of the trays for the Marketplace were absent for a day in order to save water and energy.
Since the beginning of the 2010 fall semester all of the trays from the Marketplace have been removed in order for Sodexo to pursue their green initiative.
Members of SGA have received some feedback from the absence of the trays and have worked out a deal to have the trays appear once a week.
The SGA Sodexo Committee was also able to make another change occur in the Marketplace.
The salad day and the made to order (mto) sandwich day have switched places. Salad day used to be every Tuesday, and now it is every Wednesday, while the mto day has moved from Wednesday to Tuesday.
Sodexo committee member Eric Croasmun said the group wanted to make the switch in order to make the great traffic in the Marketplace on Wednesdays less hectic. Because every Wednesday at noon is an open block for all students, the Marketplace always receives a high amount of students at that time. This causes a great amount of traffic. With the mto days on Wednesdays a large line was always formed in order for students to get sandwiches made for lunch.
Croasmun said the committee thought that putting the salads on Wednesdays would make the lines go much faster and would create less standstill traffic in the Marketplace. Members of SGA agreed that it made sense to get rid of the mto sandwiches, the food that takes the longest to make, on the busiest day.
Croasmun said that he is very pleased with Sodexo’s willingness to work with SGA and with their openness to listen to and even follow through with their suggestions. Regarding McDermitt, Croasmun said, “He is listening.”
