Volleyball team goes 1-1 in last two games

On September 15, the West Liberty Volleyball team traveled to Institute, W.Va. to take on West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Lady Hilltoppers were swept in the best of five series match.

In the opening match, the game was tied at 5-5.  But a 20-6 scoring run by the Yellow Jackets killed all hope for the Hilltoppers.

The Yellow Jackets went on to win two more sets 25-12 and 25-15.

Leading the Hilltoppers in kills were Melissa Pierzchala and Emily Mellie, each contributing three.  Chelsea Byrge had the most assists for the Hilltoppers with five.

The Lady Hilltoppers were home for their next match against Bluefield State last Friday, Sept. 23.

The Hilltoppers snapped a two game losing streak by sweeping Bluefield State.

The Lady Toppers won big on their first match, 25-9.

They followed that match up with a 25-12 route in the second set and finished the third and final set with a 25-11 win.

Rachel Ziegler led the Hilltoppers with a match-high nine kills while Anne Edwards added eight kills and four blocks. Alexandra Kowalski contributed for the Hilltoppers with five kills, two blocks and a team-high five digs while Gabbie Davis had a game-high night with 21 assists.

The Hilltoppers match against Ohio Dominican was played after The Trumpet went to press.
