Revel’s Reverb: Music festivals take over the summer season

As the school year nears it’s end, I, Joshua David Revels, have made it my sole, righteous duty to keep you in the know about one of summer’s glorious splendors…massive music festivals!

underoathThe music festival that seems to be synonymous with summer vacation is the annual Vans Warped Tour.  This year the tour will be making about 46 stops across the U.S. of A. to bring joy to the hearts of punk, ska and hardcore fans alike.  Headlining this years Warped Tour are acts such as Christian hardcore rockers UnderOATH, pop-punk patriots The Ataris, old-school punks NOFX, Bad Religion and Anti-Flag, and ska champions Less Than Jake and Streetlight Manifesto.  Also appearing are a smorgasbord of rising artists such as The Maine, The White Tie Affair, Hit The Lights, Every Avenue, Breathe Carolina, 3OH!3 and A Day To Remember.  Check out www.warpedtour.com for more info and to see when the tour strikes your area.

Another festival that’s on the radar is The 2009 Bamboozle, a two-day music festival held at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ. Performing bands include No Doubt, Fall Out Boy, Third Eye Blind, New Found Glory, The Used, Sum 41, Rise Against, August Burns Red, Bayside, Cartel, Suicide Silence, Set Your Goals and oh so many more. This one is a no brainer: BE there. The Bamboozle will be going down on May 2nd and 3rd. Take a stroll on over to www.thebamboozle.com to get the complete scoop.

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival will be quite the show to see this year as well.  Acts that will be gracing the Bonnaroo stage this year are as follows: Dillinger Escape Plan, Shadows Fall, High on Fire, Gov’t Mule, Public Enemy, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Mars Volta, Snoop Dogg, Nine Inch Nails, The Beastie Boys, Phish, Bruce Springsteen and that’s only half of it!  The epicenter of the annual music and arts fest will be in Manchester, Tennessee June 11th through the 14th. To get more information about bands playing and artists appearing, type www.bonnaroo.com into your web browser and you will be good to go.

One of the bigger festivals this year is the Rock on the Range which will be held at the Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH May 16th and 17th.  The show’s lineup, which I consider to be the best that I have seen in some time, consists of Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Chevelle, Atreyu, Korn, Hoobastank, Blue October, Buckcherry, Motley Crue, Sick Puppies, The Used, Shinedown, All That Remains, Clutch, Framing Hanley, and the triumphant return of grunge pioneers Alice in Chains! This show will be on May 16th and 17th. Ladies and gentlemen, if you go to only one concert this summer vacation, do yourself a solid and make it this one. Get the full lineup at www.rockontherange.com.

This summer also be on the lookout for new releases from bands like Chevelle, Alice in Chains, Killswitch Engage, Flyleaf, Set Your Goals, Sick Puppies, Hatebreed, and Everytime I Die. Take the knowledge I’ve given you, cultivate it, save up some greenbacks and GO TO CONCERTS, PEOPLE!  Revels out.
