The West Liberty Cross Country Team began their season on August 29 at the Seton Hill Griffin Classic. The West Liberty men’s cross country team posted a 6th-place finish in the men’s invitational. Freshman Randall Shreve was the top Hilltopper finisher, placing 23rd.
On the women’s side Kallen Weaver started off her senior season in fine style as the two-time All-WVIAC runner finished third overall in the and sophomore Kare Lucarelli placed 20th overall.
Next, the team competed in the CaU Invitational On the Men’s side A.J. Gavin turned in a top 20 finish placing 15th overall. Randall Shreve was the second Hilltopper finisher placing 33rd.
Senior standout Kallen Weaver turned in another strong performance placing 12th.
This past weekend A.J. Gavin finished 14th in a field of more than 50 runners to lead the men’s team to a fifth-place finish in the 7th annual Carl Broughton Invitational. Gavin posted a time of 28:43.28 and finished in the top 20 for the second time this season.
Once again, Kallen Weaver impressed everyone with a great performance. Weaver took second place in the event finishing 31 seconds behind the winner. The women placed 6th as a team. Both teams will be in action again this weekend in the very competitive IUP Invitational in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
